The Second Summer Music Camp

Musical Success in Agomé Kusuntu

From 20 July to 2 August 2026, the Youth Harmony Music School Summer Camp offered children and young people two weeks of intensive musical and cultural education. A total of 38 enthusiastic participants took part in the Summer Music Camp.

The 2026 Summer Camp had to be reorganized at short notice for organizational reasons. As a result, the number of participants was lower than originally planned, and the camp was attended mainly by students of the music school. Despite these challenges, the camp was a great success and once again demonstrated the power of music and the positive impact it can have.

A Diverse Educational Programme

The students were taught in four sections to ensure individual support and development, ranging from early musical education (Éveil) for children under the age of 7 to the Senior Section for advanced instrumentalists.

• Fundamentals & Technique: During the first week, the focus was on music theory, reading music, rhythm, and technical precision on the instruments.
• Practice & Repertoire: The participants worked on a wide range of pieces, from international classics such as Schubert's "The Great Hallelujah" to significant compositions by local and regional artists, including "MIADUDZI GODO" and "OYE."
• Theoretical Examination: A comprehensive musical assessment at the end of the camp confirmed the impressive progress made by students in all groups – from early musical education through Beginners and Intermediate to the Advanced level. The results were outstanding, with the highest scores reaching 49 out of a possible 52 points.

Special Highlights and Community

Beyond the lessons, the camp offered unforgettable experiences

• Educational Excursion: A hike to the neighboring village of Agomè Yoh gave the students the opportunity to visit an instrument repair workshop, where they gained insights into instrument maintenance and the physics of sound.
• Team Spirit: A friendly football tournament provided a welcome sporting break and strengthened the sense of community between teachers and students.

The Grand Final Concert

The highlight of the Summer Camp was the public concert held on 2 August at the "Place Mariale." In front of a large audience of parents, local traditional chiefs, villagers, and music enthusiasts, all groups had the opportunity to showcase their skills. The orchestra-level performance by the senior students and the heartwarming recorder pieces performed by the youngest participants were particularly well received.

The 2026 Summer Camp was a powerful testament to the cultural and artistic development of the region.

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, the participants were able to further develop their musical skills and, above all, experience the joy of making music together. The Summer Camp provided many valuable musical experiences, new friendships, and unforgettable moments shared together.
